The Gimmick
One day during the finals period, I was bored. So I went on to my friend's site and made an entry into a song. The next day, I thought this was a pretty cool idea, so I did more. I was going to call this Work in Progress, inspired by an excellent eponymous essay by Erin O'Connor on James Joyce. A lot of people say they want to write a piece of literature in their lifetime. The way I see it, everyone's diary / blog / journal are just a work in progress of a forthcoming autobiography. It contains bits of facts here and there, and the facts are appropriated and romanticized. Unfortunately, allmusic.com told me that some electronic group already took that name. Thus, Journal Entries it is. The simplicity is probably for the best.

Bit of warning first -- this is just me and an acoustic guitar (that's not even mine), recorded with a computer microphone. I am probably not a good guitar player, or a good singer, and the microphone -- well, let's just say the overall technical quality may not be the best. A computer program could probably do a better job than me. I think this is a fun idea, nevertheless, and hopefully I'll get to read some random diaries / blogs / journals this way. Feel free to take the idea and run with it, if you want. It'd be cool, I think, to see people start rapping these semi-public words. Or even a nu-metal band. Maybe not.

So Here Is The Deal: use the form below to give the basic information about your diary / blog / journal and the specific entry you want to hear butchered. It may be a bit much, but I'd like some used books in return. My plan is to read them and keep them if they're really good, and donate them to Books to Prisoners otherwise. With that consideration, please try to follow the guidelines on their website. I don't want to make this necessary or a set number of books, so use your own discretion, respect the honor system. I'll reply to the enquiry with my address if I choose to do it (most likely). If you're outside of the United States, just try to donate to your local Books to Prisoners or equivalent, and that'd be cool.

By sending me a request, you are granting me the right to place your words on this site, take a screenshot to your journal, and so on. So far, the songs are in English, because that's the language the entries were written in. However, I can attempt to pronounce things written in Ancient (Attic) Greek, German, and Mandarin, or even some other language (it just wouldn't sound very good, or right). I might even change (botch) your words slightly, sorry.
